DE PLAYER presents ZOUT EX PLODER:
Fluwelen Koord LP release + Allochtoontje Lager, EVOL, Rubén Patiño & Josie Perry
As a ‘grande festivité’ DE PLAYER organizes a live happening during this year’s South Explorer weekend. Just to completely refresh the brain batteries and make your Sunday a bit more bearable. First of all our Antwerpian comrades from Fluwelen Koord will present their new album entitled ‘Positieve Berichtgeving’ (released by DE PLAYER). Expect a live set which clearly has its roots in the former Dutch punkband Tedje & De Flikkers and other no-fi punk related stuff. The line-up has been completed with a pretty crazy company of artists, ranging from the extraterrestrial inputs of EVOL (sp) and Rubén Patiño (it) to neighbourhood locals Allochtoontje Lager and the in Rotterdam residing performance artist Josie Perry (uk). Call it ‘kut op Dirk’? Or ‘Zout Ex Ploder’.
• JOSIE PERRY (UK)
Shifting between performance, sculpture and drawing, Josie’s practice explores intersections between personal situations, interpersonal fantasies and regulatory systems. She often plays with tensions between controlled precision and bodily excess, and is interested in the female voice as a disruptive force. Her research largely centers around material and sociopolitical ideas of voice, which stems from her background in vocal performance. Josie graduated from the Ruskin School of Art (UK) in 2017, and is currently based in Rotterdam, where she studies at the Piet Zwart Institute.
• ALLOCHTOONTJE LAGER (NL)
The Rotterdam based project Allochtoontje Lager got plenty of lead left in their pencils, and in their pants. Musically they go from Metal to worldly, from north to south, from Alpha to Omega, from bad to worse, but always with ‘the people’ inside their stomachs. The ‘native Dutch’ raise their all-endearing finger once again, but are powerless because their endless gaze is fixed on their navel. They seem to be lost in their lower abdomen, where left-wing elites fight it out with right-wing reflexes while the sacred economy accentuates electoral triviality.
• FLUWELEN KOORD (BE)
Fluwelen Koord will present their brand new album entitled ‘POSITIEVE BERICHTGEVING’, released by DE PLAYER. These four No Wave dandies prefer playing with their flutes over wetting their brushes in their painting studios. Basically, they are a bunch of ill-bred art heads being caught with their pants down, channeling their weird and wonderfully crude sound to the audience as good as they can. They enter a world of unpolished minimal, where their sound always seems to be on the verge of collapse. Earlier they released their single ‘Luxepoesjes’ on the Antwerp-based Ultra Eczema label.
• RUBÉN PATIÑO (ES)
Rubén Patiño is an artist working in the field of electronic music, operating in a hybrid area that includes elements of club culture and contemporary art. Most of Patiño’s work takes shape in time-bound performances in which sound, light, video, text, ideograms and various materials are incorporated. Especially interested in distorting the perception of space and involving the public, his practice tends to challenge standardized forms of presentation and explores the boundaries between concert, public event and installation. For this occasion Patiño presents ‘Actually Laughing Out Loud’, a series of works that explore the sound of laughter as a compositional material, but also as a means to a psychological condition.
• EVOL (ES)
Roc Jiménez de Cisneros and Stephen Sharp deform all sort of techno artifacts, stretching them to their very breaking point. Their live sets are a barrage of curved bass lines and asymmetrical beats that apply ideas and metaphors about folding, bending and turning structural elements –– they like to call it “Acid Mereotopology”. Their work has been published on labels such as Diagonal, Presto!?, Editions Mego and Entr’acte.
