Panorama of Cacotypes
Panorama of Cacotypes is a series of analogue photographs of rape scenes based on personal experience. This artwork is a protest against the current Greek law and statute of limitations (15 years) as well as the lack of regulations regarding filing complaints of insult.
The photographs are executed using the photographic technique of W.F Talbot Cacotype and refer both semantically and conceptually to the invention of photography. Photography was a way to capture reality and was used as a record for crimes by forensic authorities in court cases. In this artwork creating images with light is used as a metaphor to capture the tangible result of trauma. In doing so, I make a statement that traumas do not vanish or become statute-barred, in contrary to the law. With this I try to ask questions about the disproportion between the legal system and the impact of sexual insult on people.
